Individual therapy in Exeter
In my work I will tailor a variety of techniques to suit the needs of the individual, this is knows as an integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy.
My focus will be on the individual’s distinctive experience, whilst understanding that we do not exist in isolation. Our personal situations, our life circumstances and our worldview all contributes to a our self and who we are.
If we can begin to understand our patterns we can then choose how to react and relate to them and which patterns are no longer of use to us.
In my work in counselling and coaching I will use a number of theories including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), mindfulness, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), body-centred psychotherapy, depth psychology, psychodrama, provocative therapy, imaginal work, art therapy, ecotherapy, systems theory, dialogue techniques, non-violent communication (NVC), organisational dynamics, groupwork and group facilitation.
Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling often focuses on a specific problem or issue. Problems are mostly discussed in the present-tense with less focus on the past. A good counsellor will guide the individual to find his or her own answers and offer support through any actions the individual choose to follow .
Psychotherapy focuses more on the emotional background of a problem, rather than the behaviors that follows. A psychotherapist will help with resolving the past experiences and guide the client to see it’s impact on the present and the future, and so building the foundation for a better future. Psychotherapist will often obtain the information from unconscious sources like the body, ‘inner child’ and the imagination.
